Two products I designed, built and shipped on my own. Both are live — the captures below are the real sites, not mockups.

Studio management for video production teams who are currently duct-taping Drive, email and spreadsheets together.

Delivery, revisions, client sign-off and invoicing usually live in four different places, and the handoff between them is where a production loses a week. FilmKit puts the whole chain on one job record, so a client's "can we see v3 again?" stops being an archaeology dig through a shared inbox.

Delivery: Versions stay attached to the job instead of the thread they were emailed in.
Sign-off: Approval is a recorded action, not someone saying "yep looks good" on a call.
Invoicing: Billing hangs off the same job record, so it doesn't get re-typed.

Real-time train tracking across NSW & Victoria, built for the phone that's already in your hand on the platform.

Live positions, platform info and timings, refreshed every 30 seconds across three networks. It's an installable PWA rather than a store app because the moment you need it is the moment you're standing on a cold platform wondering whether the 7:42 exists — that shouldn't require a download.

Positions: Where the train is now, not where the timetable says it should be.
Timings: Platform and departure — the two things you check before you run.
Install: Add to home screen, works like an app, no store listing.

Nobody asked for any of these. That's sort of the point — this is where the practice happens.

Self-hosted infrastructure

oakljen.com runs on Cloudflare in front of Oracle Cloud instances, with a status page and services behind it. If this page loads, the setup is working.

A personal Asterisk PBX that turns vintage GPO 746 rotary phones into SIP extensions — baresip, GPIO bell drivers, and a bridge into Discord audio. The bell is mechanical. It is very loud.

About me

I work IT and customer support for a nationwide company. Officially I'm on the support desk, but I'm usually the one people escalate to when something actually needs fixing — I've ended up the most knowledgeable person on the team about how the platform works under the hood.

Outside of work, the same problem-solving turns into a hobby — pointed at my own homelab instead of someone else's spreadsheets.

I studied Computer Science at Western Sydney University, and I've spent the years since turning that into practical skills: dashboards that replace hours of manual copy-pasting, networks that don't fall over, and the occasional vintage rotary phone that now runs on SIP.

I like fixing things properly the first time, explaining what I did in plain English, and not disappearing once the invoice is sent.

First contact for tickets and client email on a compliance and induction platform used nationwide.
The team's escalation point for real troubleshooting rather than script-following.
Built Power BI dashboards from support and telephony data, with DST-aware AEST handling and Erlang C staffing models.
Cloudflare Workers, Power Automate flows and Python sync scripts feeding SharePoint-hosted reporting.
Shipped an internal Chrome extension served through a Cloudflare Worker.

Outside of the day-to-day, I take on IT consulting work directly. You don't need to know what a "reverse proxy" is to work with me — tell me what's broken or slow, and I'll explain what's going on in plain English before I touch anything.

Common questions

What does it cost?

There's no price list here, because I'd be making it up before I know what the job is. You tell me what's wrong, I diagnose it, and you get scope and cost in plain English before I start. If the answer is "this is a five-minute fix, don't pay me for it," I'll say that too.

Do you work remote or on-site?

Both. I'm in Sydney, so on-site is straightforward around the city. Most reporting and automation work happens remotely anyway.

What happens if it breaks again?

I fix it. That's the short answer. The longer one is that I leave notes on what I changed and I'm still reachable after the invoice is sent — a job isn't finished the moment I get paid.

I don't know what's actually wrong. Is that a problem?

No — that's most of the job. "It's slow", "it keeps doing the thing", or "someone set this up in 2019 and left" are all fine starting points. Working out what's actually happening is the part you're hiring me for.
